Top Tip: Layering Texture Matters More Than Colour

25 February 2026 ·Cranberryhome Studio

Layering texture has become as important as choosing the right colour scheme. Linen, wood, stone, velvet and woven finishes — used together — are what make a room sing.

Layering texture has become just as important as choosing the right colour scheme.

Designers are combining materials like linen, wood, stone, velvet, and woven finishes to create depth and interest. This approach adds a tactile quality to interiors, making them feel softer, richer, and more visually engaging.

Curved and organic shapes are continuing to rise in popularity, softening the overall look of a space. From rounded sofas to arched doorways and sculptural furniture, these flowing forms create a more relaxed, natural feel that contrasts beautifully with sharper, more rigid lines of the past.

Try this at home: pick any room and count the textures. If you can count fewer than five distinct tactile materials, you’re under-layered. Add a woven rug, a linen throw, or a piece of aged timber, and watch the room come alive.
